Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, diced
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 1 cup grated aged cheddar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2-3/4 cup milk
  • garlic butter to brush on (optional)

Instructions

  1.  Preheat the oven to 450 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder and salt. Add the butter and using your fingers or a pastry blender, break the butter to the size of peas. Add the chives and cheese and mix together.

  3. In a measuring glass, whisk the egg and add milk to reach the ¾ mark. Add the milk mixture to the flour and mix just to combine (will be crumbly). Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface, pat together into a 1” circle and cut into shapes with a round biscuit cutter (or cut into wedges with a sharp knife). Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake until golden brown, around 12 minutes.

  4. Brush with garlic butter if desired (2 tablespoons of melted butter with ½ clove crushed garlic) and serve warm out of the oven.
