My kitchen counters are one of the busiest spaces in my house. Morning coffee. After school snacks. Dinner prep while someone tells me about their day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I like to treat that space with a little love… so this is how I style my counters.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The secret is layering pieces that feel both beautiful and lived in. Natural textures like an olive tree or a stone board, mixed with a few meaningful staples… like this menu print that quietly anchors the whole space.

Because the rooms we spend the most time in deserve a little intention.

I asked my husband on a date last week. He seemed a little surprised. Honestly? So was I.

I’d been quietly waiting for him to do it and quietly getting frustrated that he hadn’t. Classic. I said nothing, he noticed nothing, and life just kept filling every available space. Work, kids, the never-ending list. You know how it goes.

So I stopped waiting and asked myself: why not me?

What I didn’t expect was how fast he said yes. How quickly he closed his laptop, silenced his phone, and just showed up. Present. All in.

Over a good bottle of wine and a conversation that had nothing to do with schedules, I remembered something I don’t want to forget: sharing a life isn’t the same as choosing each other. And sometimes the most romantic gesture isn’t grand, it’s just being the one who reaches out first.

In my twenties and thirties, I thought happiness was like a bus stop. A place you eventually arrived at.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You worked toward it. You got off there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But as I approach my fifth decade, I’m realizing something else. Some of my favourite moments now only exist in my memories. (Cue the sobs)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And becoming a mother amplified that realization in ways I never expected. Because I now know that one day, the noise will quiet. The questions will slow. The little voices calling “mom” from the other room will turn into something older, deeper.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One day, I’ll wonder how it all moved so quickly… and why I didn’t hold onto every ordinary moment like it was the happiest day of my life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because it turns out… it was.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Motherhood has this sneaky way of passing while we’re busy waiting for the next phase.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Waiting for things to get easier. Waiting for more sleep. Waiting for the house to feel less chaotic. Waiting for life to slow down.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Waiting for the “good part.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But the truth is… this was the good part. The ordinary days we were too busy to realize were actually the big ones.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the older my kids get, the more aware I become of how quickly these seasons move… and how the little things quietly become the things you miss most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I’m trying to remember this. Not someday, not one day, but today.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because one day this loud, messy, beautiful chapter will just be a story we tell.

Rewiring your house to install a custom art light? Expensive. This $40 @betterhomesandgardens one from @walmartcanada ? Priceless.

Truly nothing compares to the feeling you get when you can look your husband dead in the eye and say, “I installed it myself.”

Being a boy mom is not what I expected.

I expected loud. I expected wild. I expected mud on everything.

And yeah, it is... but it’s also this quiet protectiveness I didn’t see coming. Big feelings. Random hugs for no reason. Deep conversations right after wrestling matches. Fierce love .... and a grocery bill that honestly feels like a personal attack 😅

But most of all? It has softened me in ways I never expected.
