Needing a little bit of food TLC for those days when you feel under the weather? Here are my 5 most comforting recipes that nourish both the body and soul. From heartwarming veggie-filled soups to soothing, vitamin-packed frozen treats and tonics, these recipes are sure to help with a speedy recovery.
It can be hard to find the motivation to cook when you’re feeling under the weather, but these comforting recipes are worth it – I promise! Try and resist the overpriced takeout and make something homemade, it tastes so much better (and better for you) ALWAYS.
1. Curry Coconut Squash Soup
This Curried Coconut Squash Soup is jam-packed with aromatic curry flavour and comes together in under an hour: now that’s my kind of soup! It’s simple to make, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the flavour. Similar to the tonic above, this recipe includes turmeric, which helps reduce inflammation while increasing your body’s antioxidant capacity to boost your immunity.
2. Butternut Squash Lasagne
This winter-inspired vegetarian Butternut Squash Lasagne is the perfect baked dish for cozy nights. One-pan dishes like these are great make-ahead meals and are true life-savers when you’re feeling under the weather (translation: make it now and store it for “one of those days” ahead)! Don’t want to fuss with a lasagne? Try this Butternut Squash Carbonara. Does it get more comforting than pasta? I think not…
3. Golden Turmeric Tonic
It is officially very cold outside (hello Canadian winter!) but luckily I have a fix; this Golden Turmeric Tonic. Chock full of good ingredients, this tonic not only tastes good but is good for you too. This warm and nourishing drink comes together so easy and is the perfect anti-inflammatory fix for when you need to fight off that nasty cold.
4. Turkey Pesto Meatball Soup
This recipe is a total hug in a bowl. This time of year (a.k.a soup season) calls for every ounce of nutrition we can get, and this Turkey Pesto Meatball Soup is hearty and full of immune-boosting spinach, veggies and lean protein. Other recipes to try are my Cheater Chicken Noodle Soup (a classic) and Roasted Tomato Soup.
5. Orange Julius Smoothie
A childhood classic, this Orange Julius Smoothie is so delicious and soothing on a sore throat. I love that this smoothie tastes like and orange creamsicle and full of immune-boosting vitamin C. If you are on my Fraîche Table meal plan, these Immune Boosting Smoothies are also fantastic.
If you’re feeling under the weather, please hang in there! I hope these recipes provide you some delicious comfort.
