Crank up the Bing Crosby, it is ALMOST officially Christmas baking time in our little household! This DIY Gingerbread Spice takes just a minute to make and is the perfect way to prepare for all the baking ahead. This is not only a great pantry staple but also makes the sweetest little homemade (and zero waste!) hostess gift.
Is there anything that screams Christmas more than gingerbread? From cookies to pancakes to energy bites, I think I’ve found a way to sneak it in to almost every type of recipe. The other day I was hunting in my local grocery store for gingerbread spice, and came up empty… so figured I would just make my own. Easy peasy.
This is such a fun weekend project that really takes no effort at all, but is a great way to get you in the mood for prepping for all that holiday baking ahead of us! You probably already have most (if not all) of these spices in your pantry. All it takes is a simple mix together and you are prepared for holiday baking my friends. And while you’re at it, multiply the recipe to make easy work of those hostess gifts you know you’ll wish you had on hand as you run out the door for a party!
This spice mix looks adorable packaged up with a ribbon as a hostess gift in this holiday season. I actually just purchased the little jars from the dollar store and got the ribbon from Michaels (I also save ribbon that people give me – they don’t all have to match). I love homemade gifts, and something as thoughtful as this gingerbread spice also happens to be zero waste which I LOVE. You could even write out one of your favourite gingerbread recipes on a recipe card to go with it!
This gingerbread spice is, what we consider, a perfect blend of spices. Not too heavy on the cloves and just the right amount of all the other stuff. Modify as you wish but we are pretty sold on this one!
You can use your new DIY Gingerbread Spice mix in my delicious Gingerbread Pear Upside Down Cake recipe, perfect for the holidays!

- 2 teaspoons all spice
- 2 teaspoons cloves
Instructions

Mix together all spices. Store in a cool dry place for a long shelf life! Each batch yields just over 1/2 cup of spice.
Lorna McCartney says
That seems too easy! How long is the shelf life
Tori says
Hi Lorna,
It will have the same shelf life as the spices you use! Usually around a year. I’d recommend storing your spice mix in a cool dark place for a longer life!
Megan says
What do you mean by cloves. I have whole cloves here, is that what you mean, just in powder form?
Tori says
Yes! You can use a spice blender or mortar and pestle to grind them.
