As a busy mom, doesn’t it feel like the weight of the world rests on your shoulders? If left unchecked, that weight can quickly lead to burnout. Here are 5 proven strategies (#3 is my secret weapon) to lighten the load and create a better life for yourself. You deserve it.
As a 46 year old mama of two boys, I am so passionate about helping busy women like you take care of themselves in the busiest season of your lives. I’ve gone through burnout and it was so awful: I felt like a shell of a human. Here’s what I’ve learned (the hard way, of course); I hope it helps.
5 Ways to Prevent Mom Burnout
1. Let Go of Perfection
As moms, we often hold ourselves to impossibly high standards. But here’s the real truth: perfection is doesn’t exist. Embrace the idea that “good enough” is perfectly okay. It’s fine if the laundry isn’t folded, or if dinner isn’t a gourmet Pinterest masterpiece. You’re doing great mama.
2. Practice DAILY Self-Care
I love the saying: you can’t pour from an empty cup.
As a parent, it’s easy to put everyone else’s needs before your own, but regular self-care is crucial to preventing burnout. Whether it’s a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, a daily walk outside, or even a few minutes of journaling, find time each day to recharge.
Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for your well-being and ability to care and show up for others. Make it your first priority of the day so YOU don’t get put on the back-burner.
3. Start Meal Planning
From deciding what’s for dinner to making sure the fridge is stocked, the invisible mental load of meal planning can be overwhelming. It’s not just about cooking; it’s about everything before that, being in charge of every step, every day.
Imagine if meal planning was on AUTOPILOT? What if you could share the burden with your family, turning it into a team effort? With Fraîche Table you can unlock the power of meal planning, saving you precious time and stress every single day. It doesn’t have to be all on you mama!
Fraîche Table plans your meals for you (grocery list included) and lets everyone in the family play a role in getting dinner on the table. As a dietitian mom of 2 boys, let me tell you, this is an important life skill.
I let my kiddo’s browse the Recipe Library, choose the ones they like, and in minutes, help me craft a week with simple wholesome recipes that everyone will love.
The question is… what are you going to do with that extra 20+ minutes a day? Answer: see point 2 above;)
4. Set Boundaries
You can say NO! Learning to say no can be one of the most powerful tools in your burnout prevention toolkit (I’m still learning this one and I’m 46, ugh). Setting boundaries around your time and energy helps prevent overcommitting and lets you focus on what truly matters.
Tip: When booking things in advance, if you wouldn’t say yes if it was tomorrow, don’t do it. Your future self says ‘thank you’.
5. Connect with Other Women
You’re not alone! We are hardwired for connection: and I mean REAL connection (not over social media – not the same my friends).
Connecting with other women who understand your challenges can be so comforting. Sharing your experiences and advice with others can provide much-needed support and perspective. I love connecting with my girlfriends to vent, laugh, cry, and swap stories; it is so good for the soul.
Remember, you’re doing an amazing job Mom, and it’s okay to ask for help along the way.
