Our Pantry Reveal

Our butler pantry is actually my favourite place in the house.  I had no idea I would enjoy the space so much when we designed it, and I am so excited to finally be sharing our pantry reveal with you!

I walked through Our Kitchen Reveal a few months ago and also highlighted Our Top 14 Kitchen Features, but I thought it was finally time to show you our pantry!  Our home was designed with a very open concept: when you walk in the front door it opens up to the living room, kitchen and dining area.  I love that the space is so great for entertaining, but I also wanted to have an area where we could house our appliances, ingredients and cooking gear that was tucked away from it all.

With all of the cooking and baking that I do for work, we really invested a lot of time and energy into designing our pantry to make it both beautiful and functional.  I love having a mix of open shelves and closed drawers and cupboards because quite frankly, not everything that I have behind them is worth displaying!

The Arched Pantry Entrance

I didn’t want a doorway on our pantry, but wanted the entrance to look a bit unique. We ended up designing an archway into our pantry from the kitchen and it added the perfect detail I was looking for.  It framed the back wall which I LOVE, along with one of my favourite finds, a vintage French brass chandelier I picked up from Sadie Ann McMurray in Mission BC.

White Pantry Cabinetry

We continued our cabinetry design from our kitchen into our pantry to maintain the flow, which is a bevelled edge cabinetry from Norelco that was painted Simply White (Benjamin Moore – colour matched).  I can’t recommend Norelco enough – they were SUCH a pleasure to work with on our home, and their attention to detail and customer service was the best.  Peter, the owner of Norelco, helped us design our kitchen and pantry and we have him to thank for so much of this (they do work outside of the Okanagan if you’re looking for a company to work with).  AND, as I type this they have a renovation sale going on.

Brass Hardware

We also continued our hardware from our kitchen and sourced it all from Emtek … I love how it turned out! We used these gorgeous French Antique Brass Cup Pulls (4″) for the drawers and these round Norwich knobs in French Antique Brass (the smaller ones) for the cupboards.  The appliance hardware pulls are the spindle pulls in French Antique Brass too and are so stunning!

Backsplash Tile & Hardwood Floor

Our tile is from Fireclay Tile (Frost) and has a light crackling detail to it to give it a bit of an edge vs regular subway tile.  It’s classy and timeless and is a warmer white which works well with our home.  We chose the Alabaster tone of the grout from Mapei which was a nice contrast and not too warm in colour.  Our flooring is the same through our whole house and is the Shaw Floors and is the Castlewood Oak from the Tapestry Collection.  It is uh-mazing – very forgiving!

Pantry Storage & Organization

I love being able to easily see into things in the pantry but it’s so important that everything stays organized! These large glass storage containers work so great and weren’t expensive. I like to use mason jars to store ingredients such as nuts, spices and other dry goods; we label the bottoms of them and it makes it so easy to access everything. For everything else we use large baskets (from Canadian Tire) organized by category. These French Market Baskets are from Dreamy Whites. I love the clean look from the outside.

Butler Pantry Appliances

We didn’t have room for our microwave in the kitchen, so ended up putting it in the pantry which worked out great.  It is a built in unit which I love (sits flush with the cabinets).  We also went with an electric wall oven (I prefer electric for baking – our range is gas which is better for cooking).  We also added an integrated dish drawer which we use all of the time for washing extra dishes when we have company (I LOVE dish drawers vs conventional dishwashers for the record). All of our appliances are from Fisher & Paykel and were sourced from Coast Appliances.

Cool Drawers

A game changer for us has been the cool drawers in the pantry.  They are SUCH a cool invention (from Fisher & Paykel) and give us a bit of extra fridge space. We have one on the left side that we use for our coffee bar and for all of our sandwich and breakfast items (milk, cream, jam, bread etc) and another on the right for white wine, coolers, sparkling water and beer.

Butler Pantry Bar Area

We designed a little bar space that is tucked away between the pantry and my office (haha, how convenient!?).  It was PERFECT for storing my cookbooks, wine and spirits – all designed by Norelco (again!).  We mix all of our drinks in the pantry which is perfect for keeping the clutter out of the kitchen when we are entertaining and cooking up a storm!

We extended the same countertop into our pantry from the kitchen, which is the Cosentino Silestone Statuario (it is a quartz. really nice with light veining).  We also included a white round sink and gooseneck faucet in polished nickel (I like it vs chrome, much warmer) – both are from Kohler.
