The whole Fraîche team escaped to beautiful Vancouver Island for some much needed rest and relaxation. To say we found our zen would be an understatement! We spent a blissful few days nestled in the forest and right on the edge of the ocean at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa. Here are all the details from our memorable visit!
I have dreamt of going on a trip with team for the last few years, and a quiet and peaceful retreat in the gorgeous Comox Valley seemed like the perfect spot. My mission was to have us connect, relax and get inspired. The experience more than exceeded all my hopes and dreams! We even had Flytographer capture some moments together shown here (use code FRAICHE50 for $50 your shoot).
Where is Kingfisher Resort
This resort is located on Vancouver Island in Royston, a seaside community in the Comox Valley. It is a short drive from the Comox airport (we flew in from Vancouver) and with only a 35 minute flight time, getting there was nice and simple. You could take a ferry instead and drive up from Nanaimo, which would be a gorgeous drive!

What to do at Kingfisher Resort
I have two words: PAMPER YOURSELF! Kingfisher has a luxury spa, world class dining options, epic views of the ocean, a stunning courtyard oasis, pool, and beautiful rooms.
I asked all the ladies what their favourite parts were from this trip, and without hesitation I was hit with words like: the spa, food, staff, views, courtyard garden! Here are some highlights from our trip to Kingfisher Resort.
The Pacific Mist Spa
The spa was VERY highly recommended by anyone I had talked to who had visited this resort. Let me tell you, they were all right. There is a pool, sauna, steam cave and E-P-I-C hydropath. We moved through sandstone sculpted caves, pools, and a sauna for the ultimate hydrotherapy relaxation. It was such a unique experience, I instantly knew I wanted to come back again with my hubby! This is a great place for a girls weekend, couples getaway and everything in between.
Ocean 7 Restaurant & AQUA Bistro & Wine Bar
As foodies, we were so excited to eat our way through the resort (literally). Chef Richard Benson and his staff are amazing! The food was so fresh, flavourful and inspiring.
Highlights include:
- The avocado toast: a delicious piece of art.
- Any and all house cocktails from the Aqua bar (hard to pick a favourite but the ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ is up there.
- The Ocean 7 seafood tower, because if you can’t go to the Island and not indulge in fresh seafood!
- The Polenta Fries AND the Truffle Fries (get both, just do it).
- A extensive wine list including our Okanagan fave’s!
- Their Korean Chicken Bowl was a big Fraîche favourite…we all tried to recreate it at home!
Sorry for making you drool…but you can take a closer look at the culinary experience here.
Accommodations
Obviously, one of the more important parts of any resort stay is your room! We had stayed in Penthouse Suite (2 people) and two Oceanview Courtyard Rooms (2 people per room). Where do I start….the Penthouse (recently renovated) was simply stunning. We really enjoyed the private balcony with unobstructed views of the Georgia Strait (pairs well with a cozy robe and glass of champagne), the fully equipped kitchenette, and a dining table plus living room space, making it HQ for the entire team during our stay.

Courtyard and Outdoor Space
I am a sucker for cozying up by a fire, so when I saw the many firetables nestled thorughout the Serenity Gardens I was in heaven. Each night we got into our comfy clothes, grabbed a glass of wine and sat around the fire. Is there anything more quintessential West Coast than this?!
Our experience with the Kingfisher staff truly made the trip special! From the pre-trip planning, to staff in the spa, restaurant and around the grounds, we felt very warmly welcomed. It was a hard place to leave, the ultimate sign of a vacation well spent.
