Have your cake (or cinnamon roll) and eat it too… for breakfast! This Cinnamon Roll Smoothie is packed with protein and fibre, whips up in a minute and is soooo yummy! It also happens to be vegan AND gluten free if you use gluten free oats.
Mornings pre-kids were so relaxing. Seriously. Little did I know that life with my boys would be so full of hustle and bustle (and the sweetest morning breath kisses that I wouldn’t trade for the world)! And as a morning person (I’m rather obnoxious I’ve been told… I LOVE mornings), it’s important for me to claw back a bit of that time to keep my sanity and not be so super rushed on those weekdays when we’re trying to get our acts together and get out the door in time!
Breakfast is important to me. I work out really early in the morning, and by the time I’m home from the gym I’m so ready for something to eat. And of course sending the kids out the door with a belly full of healthy food just makes sense. Smoothies are a staple in our home, but it’s easy to get stuck in a rut, right? If this describes you check out some of my favourite more unique smoothies including this Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie, this Green Smoothie that our boys ask for on a regular basis, or this London Fog Smoothie (note: it has a bit of caffeine in it so not a good choice for the kids). They each taste like a treat on their own!
I was looking through my old hand-written cookbooks and stumbled across my grandma’s recipe for cinnamon rolls. They really are the best (miss that lady) – but were so unhealthy haha! While I love a good cinnamon roll, it’s not exactly something I’d recommend eating everyday. This smoothie isn’t exactly granny’s cinnamon roll BUT it is a pretty darned good healthy alternative to satisfy that little sweet tooth!
The oats in this recipe add fibre including a special fibre called beta glucan which has been shown to help reduce cholesterol. Most of us don’t get the fibre we need in our day (estimated 25g for women and 38g for men), so why not get a jump start for the day? This smoothie is sweetened with dates and banana and includes almond butter for some extra protein and calcium. We used unsweetened almond milk but you can use whatever milk you want (soy, oat etc).

Hi Tori
So my husband has an allergy to almonds. I used oat milk and organic peanut butter instead and it was heavenly!
Tori says
Amazing!
