We recently renovated our basement and are receiving loads of comments and questions: here are the answers!
I’ve always been team white, light and airy, but I’ve turned a leaf and apparently those dark hues have been calling my name. I’m officially in my cozy era and I’m not one bit sad.
I worked with Urban Barn to furnish the spaces, and love how they turned out. I never in my life imagined I would get a blue couch, but my cousin Jillian gently (or not so gently) pushed me into the decision and I really do love it despite the hives I got when I pressed order: I’m allergic to colour. The blue velvet is really lovely and completely unique.

Our Kids TV Room
Charles and I decided it was time to create a little nook for the boys to hang out with their friends, so he built a small den in our basement that is now one of my favourite rooms. We painted the walls Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (stunning) and colour drenched the walls and trim. It felt weird painting the trim but I love the result.
The couch is amazing: so soft with a plush corduroy, and it even makes into a sofa bed for sleepovers or an additional guest room when needed. If you’re looking it is the Keith Custom Sofa in Orca Flannel from Urban Barn (custom order).
We went with French doors to close off the space so it felt cozy, but not so private that I can’t spy on the kids when I need to. Looks classy… but with a motive.
Basement Renovation
The basement walls were trashed before the mini renovation to be honest – tell me you have boys without telling me you have boys, right? A fresh coat of paint on the walls (Olympic Mountains by Benjamin Moore, it’s a lovely neutral) and a new couch was in order. The horrors I saw when we moved our old couch for the record. Do I live with animals? Yes, the answer is yes.
The blue couch from Urban Barn is the Sibley Custom Sofa Chaise and the colour is Breton Haze (custom order). The bookshelves flanking the fireplace are dreamy – they are the Kamari Bookshelves if you’re referencing the list below.

I love what you did.. my question for you, is WHAT is the Carpet made of and where did you get it from?
I have a cottage in the interior on Shuswap Lake, and I am wanting to replace my old Berber carpeting with another berber, perhaps wool berber for the bedrooms and just for the living room space. I currently have linoleum in my kitchen and foyer at the cottage and it is like 35 years old, in great shape but the pattern needs to go.. LOL..
As well, have you ever see Marmoleum flooring/ commercial linoleum.. I really do not like wood flooring or luxury vinyl plank flooring as my other home had luxury vinyl planking put in 5 years ago, and now the joints are separating in places so I am extremely leery of repeating it in another house. Thanks.

I like that you have chosen color accented furniture. I also love white. My whole house is white, or very light, walls, floors, crown mouldings, counters etc. So we purchased darker furniture to have some contrast. Now 20 years later we are renovating and having a bit of a time choosing flooring, my husband is drawn to deep dark hardwood which will swallow up our furniture and make the rooms look like big black holes, he’s slowly coming around to see that we have to chose lighter colors. It’s a lot of fun to do a renovation it brings out the creative side of the relationship. Love what you have done for the basement, gives me ideas for ours!
