There is nothing that beats al fresco dining, even into the fall. Charles and I decided to put some love into our patio and create a dreamy harvest table painted the perfect shade of white to take the space to the next level!
Feeding people is just what we do. And we LOVE it! Our home always seems to be the go-to for our family get-togethers, and we couldn’t be happier about it. There’s something so satisfying about making a beautiful meal for our people and sharing it in good company.
Our downstairs patio was left untouched until now (we ran out of steam with our renovation, it happens), and since we are home so much more these days we wanted to pour our energy into creating a cozy space to help us enjoy outdoor dining in time to celebrate Thanksgiving.
I had my friend Tifni build us a custom harvest table (she built it out of hemlock and made it 9’x3’), and wanted to find a nice warm white to paint it. I was beyond excited to partner with Lowe’s for this project to choose a shade of white from their SICO paint pallet.
Choosing the PERFECT White Paint
Finding a perfect paint colour is no easy task, and in truth, picking a white is one of the most challenging (there are SO MANY OPTIONS!). I was after a warmer white and the SICO Online Paint Selector Tool made the process a whole lot easier. From the comfort of my home (and stretchy pants), I was able to choose a SICO paint shade that was just right for the table.
We ended up going with Igloo White (SICO shade 6184-151) in a satin finish (we used the exterior grade of SICO paint) and I LOVE it! Such a nice white, really ‘balanced’ with a warmer undertone that isn’t too yellow. And since it is a paint and primer all in one, there was no need to prime the table first! We used a paint brush to brush the cracks and the rounded edges and a foam roller to roll on the paint for the flat surfaces. It’s important to give your surface a sand first and to make sure that there is no dust on the wood before painting.
The Igloo White shade was literally PERFECT, and since we were working with such a nice wood we decided to lightly sand the edges and distress some of the surface using a sanding block to let some of it show through. A light coat of verithane finished it off and will help make it easier to wipe down after all of those fun messy meals!
Tips for Setting a Thanksgiving Table
Out of all of the preparation for entertaining, the thing I enjoy most is setting the table. It seriously makes me so happy. I was totally blown away by the Lowe’s home décor selection – they had so many options for gorgeous accessories to make this Harvest Table cozy and beautiful for our Thanksgiving table.
From the wooden crates filled with apples and potted mums (the plants fit perfectly in the square ones) to the over-sized lanterns, the space turned out so good! We layered the table with plenty of texture with white embossed plates, sea grass placemats, linens and beautiful fall flowers including dahlias, echinacea and sunflowers.
I especially love the two-toned handled woven baskets and am absolutely swooning over these wood pedestal candle holders – they are so sturdy and beautiful, we will have them forever!
I added some warm off-white linens to the space to cozy it up and added a touch of gold with the cutlery. I can’t wait to host our little Thanksgiving dinner here!

Love the table! I went to Lowe’s for the candle holders and they are unavailable. Any idea on when they will be available or what is going there? I would have thought that their inventory would be available when you posted your blog post knowing your readers will be buying! Xoxox
