If you’re looking to cozy up to a yummy cozy drink this holiday season I’ve created two super simple recipes for you! Make your own cup of Peppermint Hot Chocolate from scratch or try a creamy Holiday Steamer (a.k.a hug in a mug): both are dairy free!
If the forecast is calling for “baby it’s cold outside” weather, you’ve come to the right place! With so many people needing dairy-free options, I knew I needed delicious recipes that didn’t compromise the flavour and creaminess we all love about indulgent warm holiday drinks. With that, the Dairy-Free Peppermint Hot Chocolate and Holiday Steamer were born! These recipes are easily whisked together on a cold winters day.
There’s just nothing like sipping on a hot holiday drink while the lights on the Christmas tree twinkle and the snow falls….
How do you make Dairy-Free Peppermint Hot Chocolate?
You can make hot chocolate either with cocoa powder or with actual chocolate. Both are simple, but I really love the simplicity and the richness of hot chocolate made with real chocolate!
First, combine your choice of dairy-free drink (I used Chobani Oat Vanilla … it’s really incredible – super creamy and not too sweet) with dark chocolate into a small saucepan on low heat and whisk until it comes to a simmer. To make it perfectly minty, add in a touch of peppermint extract! Then, divide into mugs, top with coconut whip and crushed candy cane. This is basically magic! Turn UP my holiday playlist, and dance merrily with Christmas in a cup.
Some things just go together, you know? Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper…. chocolate and peppermint!
How do you make a dairy-free steamer?
Nothing screams Christmas like a hot cup of steamed milk with cinnamon and nutmeg. My boys LOVED my simple steamer! It definitely beats a cold glass of milk and cookies any day and tastes a bit like eggnog but wayyy better.
Combine a vanilla oat drink (again, I used Chobani) with cinnamon, nutmeg and a dash of cloves in a small saucepan on low heat and whisk until it comes to a simmer. Like the peppermint hot chocolate, top with the coconut whip and an extra dash of cinnamon if desired! Note: pairs well with cookie of choice – these cute ones are from The Cake Mama – Izabela is so off the charts talented! You can use her gingerbread recipe here – you need to check out her gingerbread house if you haven’t already!
