Caesar’s were my Granny’s favourite drink, and it was always Charles’ duty to make her one when she came over. We make them every year to celebrate her birthday and the incredible gift she was to our family. Make way for Granny’s Classic Caesar recipe!
Our granny new how to have a good time. Like literally, she was the life of the party… ALWAYS. She is missed. And there was nothing she loved more than a good Caesar. It really is one of the best drinks. I know you can buy pre-made ones, but like most things, there’s nothing like making your own.
Charles put his own little spin on the classic Caesar and I love it – right down to the dill flower garnish! Whether you’re making these virgin or adding a bit of booze, these cocktails are a classic! Either gin or vodka work. These Caesars pair great with whatever appetizers you have on the go and of course we paired ours with Granny’s Beet Rolls (from the cookbook) for her birthday: her two favourite things!
Caesar vs. Bloody Mary
The main difference between a Caesar and a Bloody Mary is the base. Caesars use Clamato (part tomato juice part clam juice) while Bloody Mary’s use straight tomato juice! Caesars are a bit more Canadian while Bloody Mary’s are more common in the States. I personally prefer Caesars but if you’re looking to make this recipe vegan you could either try and find a vegan caesar mix or use tomato juice!
Caesar Garnishes
I love how creative you can be with your Caesar garnishes. We used dill flowers from the garden, lemon wedges, lime wedges, and pickled beans for these but the sky is really the limit! I’ve seen some pretty crazy garnishes from burgers to onion rings. Here’s a few other ideas to garnish (just use a skewer for the smaller ones):
- Pickles
- Stick of celery (keep the leaves on!)
- Olives
- Pepperoni
- Pickled asparagus
- Shrimp
- Pickled beans
- Lemon or lime wedges
- Pepperoncini
The Anatomy of a Caesar
Just like with garnishes, you can get a little creative with what you want to put into your Caesar along with what you use for the rim! We used a classic Caesar rim here but Tajin (a Mexican blend of spices) also makes for a fun twist on this classic drink. Here are a few options for what typically goes into a Caesar along with a twist Charles came up with:
- Worcestershire
- Hot sauce (we like using Tabasco, Franks, or Cholula hot sauce)
- Pickle juice
- Vodka, Gin, or Tequila
- Squeeze of lemon or lime (or both!)
- Celery salt or pre-made Caesar rim
- Fresh horseradish

Add garlic stuffed olives! They are amazing in a cesar! Along with a grass fed beef pepperoni stick, horseradish, pickle juice, lemon or lime and Epicure’s cesar rimmer is the best!

This sounds divine! If you are making it virgin do you just omit the gin/vodka or do you replace it with anything?
Tori says
Just skip it!
Steff says
Delicious, thanks for sharing!! Where did you get the Clamato in a can? I have been looking for this forever! I’m in Ontario!
Tori says
Most of our grocery stores carry it!

Caesars are our family favourite too! We also add horseradish. My son and daughter in law had a caesar bar at their wedding. It was a big hit. Love all your ideas and recipes. ❤

Hey Susan! That’s so lovely to hear. A caesar bar sounds dreamy! You’re so right, horseradish does taste great in there too. Cheers! Tori
