Wine is typically our drink of choice in the summer (and winter, fall and spring, who am I kidding!?). But it’s nice to have a few options on hand to mix it up a bit and serve something fun when guests come over! Sangria is a logical option for us given that the base is, well, wine!
Of course sangria is super refreshing but it’s also so showy: this one is a pretty light pink that ends up looking like an ombre/layered drink once you add the ice! I also love the fact that it’s made in a pitcher and can be made in advance which makes it an ideal drink for entertaining. Because who wants to be slaving away over fancy drinks when you could be sipping sangria on a lounge chair with your feet up? Right.
My cousin Michele was actually the mastermind behind this one: it was a hot summer day, we were in the middle of a photo shoot and holy cow did we ever need a tall glass of sangria!
Our cherry trees are overflowing right now (best kind of problem to have for the record) so I have half a mind to whip up something creative in the drink department with cherries. If you have any amazing ideas or recipes do share below in the comment box!
We always look for a local wine when making sangria, there are so many great options in the Okanagan! This serves 6-8 people depending on how thirsty your crowd is. Be sure to use 100% juice, not the stuff that is sweetened.
