What is Nuts & Bolts
Nuts and bolts are an addictive and delicious mix of pretzels, cereal (typically Chex and/or Shreddies), Cheerios, mixed nuts and savoury seasonings. It a GREAT snack to feed a crowd or to give away as a tasty gift packaged up in a tin or a jar. It is most commonly enjoyed round the holidays but truly it can be eaten any time of year!
How To Make Nuts & Bolts
To say this is an easy and yet impressive snack would be a big understatement. Simply mix the cereal, pretzels and nuts with melted butter, tamari or soy sauce, Worcestershire and sriracha (if desired) then shake with seasoning salt and bake! Feel free to omit any of the ingredients you like, just be sure to substitute more of something else to keep the volume consistent. There are really no rules here.

This highly addictive Classic Nuts & Bolts recipe is great to add to the holiday appetizer board or packaged in a tin for a homemade gift. Use vegan butter to make this vegan and use pre-made seasoning salt to replace the salt and spices (adjust to taste). Add a drizzle of maple syrup with the butter for a slightly sweeter mix.
Ingredients
Seasoning Salt
- 1 teaspoon salt or more, to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Snack Mix
- 10 cups mixed cereal Crispix, Shreddies, O's
- 1 cup unsalted peanuts
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 2 cups mini pretzels
- 3/4 cup melted butter
- 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
- 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (optional)
- 2 teaspoons maple syrup (optional)
Instructions

Make the seasoning salt by combining the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and pepper together in a small bowl.
Snack Mix

Preheat the oven to 325F and prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.

Combine the cereal, nuts and pretzels in a large bowl. Mix together the melted butter with the Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce and sriracha, and maple syrup if using, and drizzle on the mixture. Sprinkle the seasoning salt on top and toss to combine.

Divide the mixture between the prepared baking sheets, spread evenly and bake for 12-15 minutes (until just light golden brown), tossing half way through. Cool before storing in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 1 month.
